Israel minister: I’ll vote Trump president, Biden’s leadership harming us

Israeli Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Amichai Chikli, on Wednesday said he would vote for the United States Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, against President Joe Biden, if allowed to participate in American election.

Chikli explained that Biden’s policies and leadership are weak and they are “harming Israel.” He said Trump would better serve the interests of Israel and the Jewish people amid its war with Hamas and Hezbollah.

“The US is not projecting strength under (Biden’s) leadership, and it’s harming Israel and other countries. He said ‘Don’t’ at the start of the war — to Hezbollah, as well as Iran. We saw the result. If I were an American citizen with the right to vote, I’d vote for Trump and Republicans,” he said.

This is as latest polls indicate that Biden and Trump are in a dead heat in the presidential race at this point in the campaign, which is only six months away from the election on November 5.

How each candidate can move the needle depends on several factors, including the state of the economy and whether Trump is convicted of felonies in his current or upcoming trials.

Normally, U.S. presidential polls are determined by domestic issues, but this time around foreign policy will also play a significant role, especially the war in Gaza.

Important Democrat Party constituencies in key battleground states are disillusioned with Biden’s indulgence of Israel and neglect of the plight of the Palestinians. Biden is undoubtedly hoping that the war in Gaza that has dogged his campaign will end soon, but that hope may be based more on wishful thinking than concrete evidence. Given that both candidates have political liabilities, the election contest is likely to remain tight up through November.
