Torrents of eulogies poured in for the late politician, Dr. Cairo Ojuogboh, former member of the House of Representatives who died on Wednesday, February 16 at the age of 64.
Describing him as a national asset, dignitaries spoke of his legacies of integrity, generosity, selflessness and loyalty.
Former president, Goodluck Jonathan, elder statesman, Edwin Clark, serving and former members of the National Assembly and other dignitaries gathered at the Church of Assumption, Asokoro , Abuja on Tuesday where a Requiem Mass was held in his honour. Family, friends and associates took turns to reminisce on their experiences with the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former executive director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Dignitaries including Senators Uche Ekwunife, Tony Nwoye, Andrew Idoko attended the Mass organised to herald the final burial rites which began on April 16 in Abuja and would end on April 2 at Agbor, Delta State.
Jonathan urged the family to take solace in the legacies he left behind. “Cairo is one politician who does not believe in double standards, he stands firmly on his position. It is sad but he has left his footprints.”
Ojuogoh’s selflessness in solving people’s problems was spoken of by Senator Idoko. “I have known him for 20 years, he is very loyal, selfless and principled to a fault. Cairo will always proffer solutions to your problem.” The dedication of Cairo to the development of the Church was cited by the Vice Chairman of the Parish Pastoral Council, Mr. Joseph D Dogo, who said the late politician would be sorely missed.
“His name has had a wide national dimension since 2003. He was a figure who devoted himself to serving his fatherland. In this church, despite his many national assignments, he was dedicated to the church and contributed a lot to the upliftment of this parish. The circumstances of his death took everyone by surprise and the pain is enormous but we can’t question God.”
Senator Tony Nwoye who spoke to the press briefly after the Mass expressed his condolences to the family. According to him, Cairo lived a life worthy of emulation.
