Gunmen on Tuesday invaded the Secretariat of Ilejemeje local government area in Ẹda-Oniyọ, Ekiti State, vandalized the council buildings and injured one person.

The hoodlums who were heavily armed with dangerous weapons like guns, charms, and cutlasses invaded the Secretariat at about 10:am.

An eyewitness who did not want his name mentioned told newsmen that the gunmen shot sporadically, causing workers to flee.

Speaking on the attack, the Eleda of Eda Oniyo community, Oba Awodipo Awolola lamented that the hoodlums had earlier attacked some residents of the community on their farmlands, saying the development had resulted in panic and tension.

The monarch said there was a need for security agencies to mobilise more officers to the community to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

Also, the Chairman of Ilejemaje Local Government, Alaba Dada, in his reaction to the development, disclosed that the suspected hoodlums are from the Obbo-Ayegunle community in Kwara State.

Dada said security agents had been mobilised to the town over a long and protracted land disputes between the two communities.

The council boss said there is need for the Ekiti and kwara State governments to meet to settle the land dispute in the interest of peace and harmonious relationship of the two neighbouring communities.
