The Katsina State government has disclosed plans to host Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria’s (YSFON) National U-18 Football Championship on May 7.
According to the state’s Commissioner of Sports and Youth Development, Aliyu Zakari, the tournament will feature participants from the 36 states of the federation and the FCT from May 7 to 12, 2024.
Briefing the media on his ministry’s activities at the weekend, Zakari also disclosed that the state government has approved funds for the yearly Governor’s Cup competition involving all the 34 local councils of the state. This, he said, will promote and uplift the standard of sporting activities across the state.
He added that hosting the two major events would help to foster brotherhood and mutual understanding among the participating council areas.
According to him, the Governor’s Cup would also create a forum for scouts to discover hidden talents capable of representing the state in future national competitions and also be signed on by the state premier league club, Katsina United.
