Iranian Goalkeeper Banned for Hugging Female Fan

Iranian goalkeeper Hossein Hosseini has been banned by the Iranian Football federation for Hugging a female fan after a football game.

The goalkeeper was banned and fined of approximately #6.2Million for his actions which is against the country’s policy as far as both genders are concerned.

The incident unfolded when a female supporter’s hijab slipped, drawing attention from security personnel.

Seizing the moment, Hosseini disregarded, the traditional barriers between genders dictated by Islamic law.

The keeper then hugged the fan, on what was calculated to be just three seconds according to the video footage.

While some praised Hosseini for his bravery and compassion, others condemned his actions as unprofessional and a violation of established regulations.

The Iranian football federation swiftly responded with a hefty fine and a one-match suspension, asserting the importance of upholding existing norms within the sport.

According to a report on Iran International News, Hosseini was slapped with a hefty fine of approximately ₦6.2 million ($4,800) and handed a one-match suspension.

Since the 1979 revolution, women in Iran have been required to wear hijabs, or headscarves, despite many Muslim women globally viewing it as a personal choice.

Additionally, FIFA has consistently urged Iran’s football federation to permit female spectators in stadiums.

In a landmark move in 2019, attendance for women was authorized, despite significant resistance to the policy change.

The aforementioned outlet also revealed that Hosseini, expressing his resolve, stated that he would pay the fine, claiming that “three billion rials for the sake of a female fan of Esteghlal is worth it.”

However, Hosseini’s defiance did not waver in the face of punishment.

He declared his willingness to pay the fine, emphasizing the significance of standing up for the rights of female fans.

This stance not only showcased his commitment to gender equality but also reignited the ongoing discourse surrounding women’s access to stadiums in Iran.

Former Iranian Goalkeeper disagrees with the penalty, he said:

“Why was there silence and no penalty imposed when Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the former president, embraced the mother of the Venezuelan president?”
