Wanted cultist, 20 others nabbed in Edo

The Police in Edo State have arrested a suspected cultist who had been on the wanted list of the police and 20 others for various crimes in the state.

Parading the suspects, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, said the suspects were arrested for armed robbery, cultism, murder, conspiracy impersonation, unlawful possession of firearm, illicit drug and vandalism.

The suspects include; one Godstime Osarenwendia, 27, a notorious armed robber and cultist, who has been in the black list of the Command.

CP Adegboye said the suspect was intercepted and arrested by the Ugbowo Divisional Police officer and his men while on township patrol along Uwasota Road by Ojo junction, Ugbowo.
“This has been a season of harvest of criminals. The suspects were arrested within a period of two weeks and all this was done to make Edo safe for citizens to carry out businesses in the state,” he said.

According to him, the suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye secret cult and armed robber, who robbed in Ugbowo and environs.

He said the police, while expanding the investigation, arrested one Ojo Adelomon 38  and Evans Okharia 22,  who are members of Godstime gang and secret cult group.

The police boss said three cut-to-size single barrel guns, two locally made pistol guns and four live cartridges were recovered from them, while they will soon be charged to court.

The suspect in an interview with the journalists denied being an armed robber but confirmed being a member of Eiye confraternity.

He said the guns found in his possession belong to his cult group.

He, however, regretted joining the cult group and advised the youths to stay away from cultism.

Meanwhile, the CP has commended residents of the state for their support.

He, however, appealed to stakeholders to continue to give useful information to enable the police to fight crimes and criminality in the state.
