In a goodwill message issued by his Spokesperson, Garba Shehu, Buhari said “My family and I pray to God that you remain healthy and happy and continue to work for the betterment of the country. Happy birthday to you!”

Tinubu last Sunday, announced the cancellation of any form of celebration for his 72nd birthday today.

The president in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, directed a ban on any form of advertorial placement in newspapers, radio or television stations, saying that he would want to use the day to reflect and re-dedicate himself to the task of building a more stable, more secure, virile, prosperous and united Nigeria.

The directive, according to Tinubu, is in deference to the prevailing economic and security mood of the nation, particularly, the recent killing of officers and men of the Army and Police in Delta State.

Tinubu said, “because of the present mood of the nation and recent killing of the officers and men of our Army and Police in Delta State and recent spate of security breaches by criminal elements in different parts of Nigeria, there should be no form of birthday event and placing of birthday goodwill advertorial messages in newspapers. Goodwill messages should not be placed on radio and television stations too.”

The President had advised his associates and other well wishers who plan to celebrate with him today to channel their donation to charity organisations.
