As oil drilling activities advance in Ebenyi 1, Obi Local Council, Nasarawa State, the host community has appealed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to take quick action on the earlier agreement reached as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). º

Chairman of Obi Oil and Gas Exploration and Producing Committee, Dr Musa Agyewa, appealed an interaction with The Guardian in Lafia, yesterday.

Agyewa, who commended NNPCL for engaging youths of Obi in oil drilling activities, noted that most of the workers were unskilled.

This earlier stage of the oil drilling accommodates unskilled labour. But after this stage, it is only skilled workers that will be needed. That is why we are appealing to the NNPCL to engage our people on skill acquisition, so that they can be employable in the next stage, which is the main focus, he said.

The committee also called on the NNPCL to upgrade the palace of the Asuko of Obi as from the NNPC during its interface with the community at the Emirs palace.

According to the committee, the host community, in that meeting, requested the NNPCL management to provide living quarters for the staff of Obi Cottage Hospital and some vital amenities.

Other requests include scholarships for some Obi indigenes, provision of solar street lights in Obi town and skill acquisition programmes for youths.
