Queues have resurfaced at filling stations in Abuja and some states including Nasarawa, Gombe and Anambra following the recent scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has blamed the current fuel scarcity on logistics issues.

Queues have resurfaced at filling stations in Abuja and some states including Nasarawa, Gombe and Anambra following the recent scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly called petrol.

In the last few days, the scarcity has pushed up the price of the product as filling stations and in turn led to increase in transport fares, leaving many commuters stranded in the affected states.

There have been reports that the recent scarcity was caused by fuel shortage.

Reacting to the situation, the NNPCL on Thursday in a statement signed by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, clarified that "the tightness in the supply of Premium Motor Spirit currently being experienced in some areas across the country is as a result of logistics issues and that they have been resolved".

"It also wishes to reiterate that the prices of petroleum products are not changing," the NNPCL said. "It urges Nigerians to avoid panic buying as there is a sufficiency of products in the country."
