Imo suspect

Operatives from the anti-kidnapping unit of the Imo State Police Command have arrested a suspected kidnapper, Aralu Chukwudi Charis, 40, from Otolo, in Nnewi North Local Council of Anambra State.

Confirming the development in a statement yesterday, spokesperson for the command, Henry Okoye, said the operation was led by the leader of the anti-kidnapping unit, Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa.

According to him, the operatives acted on credible intelligence and a well coordinated operation at a hideout in Mgbidi, Oru East Local Council of Imo State.

Okoye disclosed that an ash-coloured Toyota Camry, 2005 model, with reg no; MUS 509 DS Lagos, was recovered from the suspect.

He said that the suspect allegedly masterminded several kidnap incidents around the area.

He said: In the course of investigation, the suspect confessed that he is the gang leader of a deadly criminal syndicate terrorising the people of Imo State and provided crucial information that will assist the determined operatives in the arrest of his syndicate at large.

The suspect will be arraigned in court after the completion of a comprehensive investigation.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Aboki Danjuma, has re-emphasised the Commands commitment towards clamping down on unrepentant criminal elements causing insecurity in the state, warning the youths to eschew crime or face the music.

The CP advised residents, particularly the youths to eschew crime, warning that perpetrators will always be exposed and in most cases, end up in tragedy.

He also urged the owner of the recovered vehicle to report to the command with proof of ownership for collection.
