Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, has urged for sustainable funding for the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP) to improve food production and productivity.

Emir Bayero made the appeal Monday when he received a team of Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF), a joint vision of the Islamic Development Bank IsDB, and other development cooperation partners, funders of KSADP, at the palace.

The monarch underscored the significant impact of the KSADP intervention and its resultant impact on food production in Kano and advocated the extension of the project scope to accommodate more beneficiaries.

The Emir emphasized that the multi-billion dollar agricultural support funds have uplifted and empowered over 1,000 small-scale farmers and several other indirect beneficiaries in Kano.

He pledged the emirate’s continued support of the KSADP project to foster wider prosperity and reduce poverty in the state.

According to the emir, “We are happy to receive you as our visitors today because we all know that you are here to help us and you have been contributing to the development of our society. We appreciate all that you have been doing.

“We had fruitful discussions with the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and have discussed extensively with him. We wish to extend our heartfelt greetings to him also.

“We hope this visit will enable you to look further into areas where our people will benefit from your gestures more looking at how things have gone sideways not only in the state but the country at large.

“We hope your interventions will further open more doors for our people to benefit from the contributions towards the development of our communities as well our economy.

“We are lucky our government of the day is a committed one that is willing to support and work to promote livelihoods of the people. Look and review these projects with a view to advance the course for the benefit of more people. Look critically and see the areas where to improve.”

Earlier, the team lead, LLF delegation, Adire Sheriff, told the emir that the team were at the palace to pay their homage as part of its activities in Kano.

Sheriff said LLF has invested multi-billion intervention on agriculture and food security to empower live and livelihoods of small scale farmers in Nigeria.
