The Kaduna State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, set up a 13-man adhoc committee to investigate financial transactions, loans, grants, and project execution under the immediate-past Governor of the State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai.

Specifically, Yusuf Mugu, a member representing Kaura constituency, moved the motion on a matter of public importance that the loans borrowed by the former governor be investigated.

The Speaker of the House, Yusuf Dahiru Liman, who presided over the plenary, urged the adhoc committee to invite all the relevant stakeholders for questioning and investigation of the matters.

The House also mandated the committee to invite notable personalities including the former speaker of the 8th and 9th Assembly, former commissioners of Finance, Former Managing Directors of Kaduna Markets, Former Senior Counselor who was also El-Rufai’s associate, Jimi Lawal; and Ex- Commissioners of Budget and Planning in the State to give account of the foreign, domestic loans and other financial transactions under the former Government.

The probe initiated by the Assembly emerged after Governor Uba Sani accused his predecessor El-Rufai of leaving lots of debt burden of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities.

Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Muhammad Lawal Shehu told the Guardian said “this Government does not interfere in the activities of lawmakers in the State.”

He said that “the Kaduna House of Assembly is an independent arm of Government, the lawmakers can take any action appropriate to smoothen the affairs of the State.”
