The Federal Government has pledged to improve and change the trajectory of the health sector by encouraging local manufacturing of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, including vaccines in Nigeria.

Special Adviser to the President on Health Matters, Dr Salma Ibrahim Anas, gave the pledge during the 11th edition of Medic West Africa 2024 exhibition and conference held in Lagos.

The conference, with the theme, Optimising Emergency Care Delivery: Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain,” focused on the future of healthcare in West Africa.

Captains of industry, innovators and healthcare professionals across the region converged to foster a dynamic environment for collaboration and knowledge exchange, and the adoption of technological innovation.

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi; Vice President, West Africa, Private Healthcare Federation, Lynda Decker; Founder/CEO, Pharmaplus, Ahmed I Yakasai and others were also in attendance.

In his remarks, Anas said: “This administration attaches great importance to healthcare development, especially concerning how we can improve and change the trajectory of the health sector, as well as reverse the trend of local manufacturing of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals, including vaccines in Nigeria.
