¢ 9ice, Omawunmi, Ric Hassani Take Charge

As the 2024 edition of the music reality competition, Nigerian Idol, premieres tomorrow, ardent followers of the show are already buzzing with excitement and ready to root for their favourite contestants. However, in what seems to be a twist, renowned music/entertainment personalities “ Obi Asika, Simi, and Dbanj, who were judges at the last edition, have bid the show farewell, and paved way for new set of judges with one of them having been a judge in previous editions.

Their contributions to the show have been immense, shaping the careers of numerous aspiring artistes and leaving an indelible mark on the Nigerian music industry. Stepping into their roles as judges are Omawumi Megbele (Omawumi); Abolore Akande (9ice) and Ikechukwu Eric Ahiauzu (Ric Hassani), each bringing their own unique blend of experience and expertise to the judging panel.

With a track record of success in the music industry, the new judges are poised to offer invaluable guidance and constructive criticism to contestants vying for the coveted title of Nigerian Idol.

The Judges

OMAWUMI isn’t just a judge; she’s a believer in kismet. She is celebrated for her powerful vocals and captivating stage presence. The singer-songwriter and actress will bring her wealth of experience and expertise to the judging panel.

Having been a guest judge in season 7 of the show, Omawumi brings the value of her illustrious career; spanning over a decade, to bear in navigating the complexities of the music industry with grace and excellence.

As a thorough bred musician, she is not only going to be strict, she will also bring honest criticism that she’s known for, pulling no punches as she says, “there can only be one winner.”

Recall that she gained attention as the 2007 runner-up on West African Idols, a reality TV show that is part of the Idols franchise. Her second album, The Lasso of Truth, was reported to be a commercial success. Her message to the contestants (dreamers) is clear – true success requires relentless hard work.

Joining Omawumi is Ric Hassani, whose velvety voice and heartfelt lyrics have garnered him widespread acclaim both locally and internationally. As the technical judge this season, Ric Hassani brings vigour, tenacity, and a fiery passion for good singing.

For him, self-awareness and the willingness to learn and improve are some of the things it takes to win. With his innate understanding of melody and emotion, Ric’s music resonates deeply with audiences, reflecting his commitment to authenticity and artistic integrity.

Completing the esteemed panel of judges is none other than Abolore Akande better known by the stage name 9ice, a trailblazing artiste renowned for his masterful storytelling and timeless hits in Yoruba language.

With a career spanning over two decades, 9ice has established himself as one of Nigeria’s most influential musicians, earning accolades for his innovation and creativity. As he takes on the role of a Nigerian Idol judge, he brings a wealth of knowledge and perspective to the table, offering contestants a glimpse into the intricacies of the music industry.

The show which will be broadcast at 7pm on all Africa Magic Channels “ Showcase (DStv Channel. 151, GOtv channel 12), and Family (DStv channel 154, GOtv channel 2), will undoubtedly captivate audiences with its hilarious and electrifying performances.
