The Edo State Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board has successfully wrapped up screening processes for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage in the Edo North senatorial district today, Wednesday, April 24, 2024.
Commencing yesterday in Benin City, the screenings were compulsory for all prospective pilgrims from Edo State.
Chairman, Sheikh Ibrahim Oyarekhua, stressed the importance of the screening in validating participants’ identities, ensuring the integrity of the pilgrimage.
Oyarekhua emphasized, “Attendance at both screening and subsequent Hajj lectures is mandatory for all intending pilgrims. Failure to comply will result in ineligibility for travel.”
Highlighting past misuse of pilgrimage services, Oyarekhua underscored the necessity of this process to safeguard against false representation.
In addition to identity verification, the screening assessed medical fitness and travel documentation, with Oyarekhua urging prompt completion.
Warning of impending deadlines, Oyarekhua stated, “The Saudi Arabian visa portal closes globally on April 29th. Failure to submit documents by then renders applicants ineligible.”
Following the screening, Hajj lectures are set to commence this weekend, with preparations for the pilgrimage nearly finalized, Oyarekhua added.
Prince Suleiman Momoh, the immediate past Commissioner for Planning, Research, Statistics, Information and Library (PRSILS), National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) while speaking to journalists during the screening exercise expressed happiness for the smoothness and orderliness exercise and urged the intending pilgrims to replicate same at Saudi Arabia.
The screening committee comprised members from various organizations, including the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Uzairue Council of Imams and Ulamas, Nigerian Immigration Service, and Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN).
Concluding today in Auchi, Edo North, the screening is to be succeeded by Hajj lectures, ensuring pilgrims are well-prepared for the journey ahead.
