Kaduna Assembly begins probe of el-Rufai’s administration

Group calls for son’s suspension from APC
The probe instituted by the Kaduna State House of Assembly against former Governor Nasir el-Rufai has begun, as the lawmakers directed the Ministry of Finance to supply documents relating to financial transactions between May 29, 2015 and 2023.

The same request, The Guardian gathered, was also made to other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDGs) in the state.

An official memo by the Clerk of the House, Mrs Sakinatu Idris, with reference number LEG/S.382/VOL.11/615 was addressed to the Commissioner for Finance on the resolution to constitute an ad hoc committee to investigate financial transactions, contractual liabilities and other related matters under el-Rufai’s watch. It was received by the finance commissioner’s office on April 22, 2024.

According to Idris, the investigation is by Order XVI Rule 9 of the Standing Orders and Rules of Kaduna State House of Assembly, 2019 and Section 103 (9) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended).

MEANWHILE, a group under the aegis of Youths Foundation (YF) has called for the suspension of el-Rufai’s son, Bello, from the All Progressives Congress (APC) for anti-party activities and undermining Governor Uba Sani.

The group said it decided to petition the APC for truth and justice, and as a human rights body, which follows the rights of others on justice and freedom.

President of YF, Auwal Ibrahim, stated yesterday: “As a party that observes the values of decorum and ethics, APC in Kaduna should not be a toothless bulldog in maintaining law and order as it has been doing, and the offence committed by Bello el-Rufai cannot be different.

“Like a tradition, many people have been suspended and sacked from political parties around the world for cogent reasons, and the case of Bello should not be an exception.”
