A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former Delta State governorship candidate, Chief Sunny Onuesoke has thrown his weight behind Minister Festus Keyamo’s efforts to overhaul Nigeria’s aviation industry. This move comes as the nation seeks to address longstanding challenges and enhance safety standards within its air transportation sector.
Onuesoke praised Keyamo’s commitment to sanitising the aviation sector, emphasizing the importance of reforms to foster growth and instill confidence among stakeholders.
Onuesoke, in response to aviation stakeholders’ demand for an apology from Keyamo for what they perceived as detrimental remarks against Nigeria’s aviation industry during an interview on channels TV, reiterated that the minister would not apologize.
He asserted that Keyamo’s actions are aimed at safeguarding the lives of Nigerians, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. Onuesoke defended Keyamo’s stance, highlighting the importance of addressing corruption and ensuring safety within the aviation sector.
Onuesoke said, “I support Festus Keyamo’s actions. You don’t play with peoples’ lives. They play too much politics in the aviation ministry. He is not going to apologise because his utterances and actions are geared towards saving the lives of Nigerians. An Airplane is not something that holds brakes while airborne. Any plane that is not capable should be grounded like what he did to Dana Air. You do not have to play politics with the lives of Nigerians. I am supporting Keyamo for his actions.”
“Continue the good work. Nigerians are with you. We must all admit that he is one of the ministers performing well under Bola Tinubu’s administration. Nigerians should allow him to sanitize the sector because he knows where to begin. How Dana Airlines still operates in Nigeria baffles me after its abysmal safety records,” he added.
He further stated that, “What did the aviation stakeholders want him to do? Is it to cover up the mess in the industry? Before he spoke out, he had seen many things. That interview was borne out of a series of corruption he had seen in the industry. When the man turns right it is corruption, left it is corruption all around the aviation industry. He burst out in order to save the life of Nigerian air travelers.”
