NiMet predicts three days of sunshine, thunderstorms across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) predicts sunshine and thunderstorms throughout the country from Wednesday to Friday.

NiMet’s weather forecast, released on Tuesday, predicted a sunny atmosphere over the northern region for the entire forecast period.

NiMet predicted isolated thunderstorms in parts of Kebbi, Taraba, Zamfara, and Kaduna during the afternoon and evening hours.

The agency predicts sunny skies with a few cloud patches over the north-central region in the morning hours.

“Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi and Kwara states,” the forecast reads.

“The southern region should be cloudy with spells of sunshine, more cloud buildup is expected over the coastal parts, with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, during the morning hours.

“Isolated thunderstorms are expected over the south-west Inland, including the coastal parts of Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states, later in the day.”

The agency also predicted sunny skies on Thursday and Friday, with few cloud patches over parts of the northwest, while parts of the northeast will be sunny and dry in the morning.

“Progressing into the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected over parts of Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Kogi and Kwara states,” the agency said.

“The southern region should be cloudy with spells of sunshine, more cloud buildup is expected over the coastal parts.

“There are prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Ogun during the morning hours.

“In the afternoon and evening periods, isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa states.”

NiMet advised airline operators to obtain up-to-date weather reports and forecasts from its office to ensure effective planning in their operations.
