The recent apprehension of 40 suspected hoodlums around the newly constructed Yaba Overpass Bridge, in Ebute Meta area of Lagos, is an indication that the state government is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the residents,
The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi who made this comment on Friday, said the arrest serves as a stern warning that criminal activities targeting Lagosians, particularly in critical transport areas, will not be tolerated.
He disclosed that the shanties serving as hideouts for the suspects have been demolished, with the area placed under continuous surveillance, exemplifying government’s proactive stance on public safety.
Mr. Osiyemi further reiterated government’s ongoing collaboration with relevant stakeholders, including Law Enforcement Agencies, to safeguard the well-being of all citizens.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly to the relevant authorities or through the Ministry of Transportation hotlines: 09020004000 or 09020009000.
The Commissioner stressed that the State Government would continue to implement strategic measures to combat criminal activities and uphold public safety.

In a related development, an appeal has gone to fuel stations that have petrol to dispense in the metropolis, to ensure that queues of vehicles waiting to buy the product do not obstruct the free flow of traffic.
The Ministry of Transportation in a statement said it viewed with great concern, the disruption of traffic flow by customers at fuel stations as the resulting gridlock adversely affects the economic activities of individuals and corporate bodies.
The ministry, while advising operators of fuel stations to be orderly by ensuring that vehicle owners queuing to buy petrol do not constitute any clog in the free flow of traffic, further warned that offenders would be sanctioned for non-compliance.
