Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, has lamented that even though his state is part of the Niger Delta region, and ought to benefit from the Niger Delta Ministry and Niger Delta Development Commission’s (NDDC) statutory mandate, Abia is rather a major beneficiary of abandoned NDDC projects.

The governor spoke when the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Abubakar Momoh, and his team met with him in the state to inspect road projects being undertaken in the state.

He expressed worry that some of the NDDC roads in the state are in deplorable condition and need attention.

He urged the minister to mobilise contractors to return and complete abandoned projects, which, he said, are scattered statewide.

Otti, who, however, expressed appreciation to the minister for visiting Abia to inspect the projects, said: “I want to say that the Niger Delta Ministry and, of course, the NDDC are both very important to us.

“You also chose to inspect the road projects under your ministry and the NDDC. So, we are quite pleased. These agencies are very important to us, as interventionists in the normal course of the business of governance. The truth is that any road done by either the ministry or agency under you is a plus to the state, and we will not go back to it.”
