Ashimolowo tasks government on poverty, hunger alleviation

The Federal Government and leaders in the country have been urged to address the chronic poverty and hunger ravaging the country.Senior Pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre in London, Matthew Ashimolowo, who advised in his homily during the 60th birthday celebration of the Founder and Lead Pastor of Victory Life Bible Church International, Lawrence Achudume, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said there is great poverty in the land, warning that there is fire on the mountain and urgent attention is needed to remedy the situation.

Ashimolowo said the gap between the haves and the have-nots is too wide, adding that the situation portends grave danger for the country. According to him, the government needs to take urgent action to address the growing poverty among the generality of the people, lamenting that the purchasing power of the people has been greatly eroded by hyperinflation occasioned by the dwindling fortunes of the naira.

Besides, the cleric lamented that people have deviated from the gospel of Christ, wondering whether people are practising fake or genuine gospel. Ashimolowo, while describing the celebrant as a learner and teacher, said Achudume carries the mark of a good man and God’s presence with him, as well as having intimacy with God and the grace of God radiating around him.

Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Bassey Uno, represented by his Deputy, Akon Eyakenyi, described Achudume as a unifying factor who, he said, had helped to unite the politicians as well as Christians in Akwa Ibom State.

According to the governor, Achudume is a good man who goes for what is right and a man who is always jovial but tells the truth at all times, even to the people in power.

Also speaking, the wife of Ogun State Governor, Bamidele Abiodun, said for over three decades, Achudume had been a light to the world by dedicating his life to the work of the ministry, saying that any encounter with him is an encounter for good. She prayed that God should grant him the grace to finish the good work he had started.

The celebrant, in a remark, described himself as a man helped by God and someone who enjoys a special grace that keeps radiating around him, saying: “I am a man helped by God. I know where I am coming from. I know where I would have been and I know where God has taken me.”
