The fourth Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa has bounced back to limelight having been conferred with the traditional title of Tafidan Jega by the Jega Emirate Council, Kebbi State.
The Emir of Jega, Alhaji Muhammadu Arzika informed the former EFCC boss that as Tafidan, one of his tasks is to guide the timely completion of all the development projects within the Emirate and ensure they touch the lives of the people positively.
While the 43-year old Bawa was honoured with the Tafidan Jega, his uncle, Alhaji Ibrahim Yahaya Bawa, a former Executive Director, Services of the Kaduna Refining and Petro-chemical Company, subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum company Limited was conferred with the title of Cigari Jega.
This was contained in a statement by the Spokesperson of Bawa family, Tijjani Isa which was made available to newsmen.
The statement said, shortly after the event, the monarch assured the newly turbaned Tafidan Jega of the courtesy demanded of his tractional office and the corporation of the people as he executes his mandates for the good of the people of the Emirate Council.
The monarch also reminded the former EFCC boss that as Tafidan his task should be to guide the timely completion of all the development projects within the Emirate and ensure they touch the people positively.
In his remarks during the event which was the first public engagement after leaving office as the nation’s anti-corruption fighter, Bawa expressed gratitude to the Emir for the honour done to him and his uncle as well as the entire family, assuring his loyalty to the monarch and the entire Emirate Council.
Bawa was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari, on February 16,2021 and confirmed by the Senate on February 24,2021 as the EFCC boss at the then 40 years of age.
The Ex EFCC Chair who was arrested and detained by the Department of State Services(DSS) on June 14, 2023, following an invite over undisclosed reasons, after he visited President Bola Tinubu earlier on the same day was freed after spending 100 days in detention on October 25, 2023.
