Former governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has debunked a report in The Guardian alleging that Dangote Refinery was not sited in Ogun State because his administration made unethical demands .

The newspaper, in an opinion article published on Saturday, July 20, this year, titled A Sunday With Aliko Dangote wrote: The refinery was initially scheduled to be sited in Ogun State, but the state government had delayed in providing the land because the governor then was making unethical demands. Dangote walked away and approached the Lagos State government. But the delay cost the company about $500 million in interest payments…

However, in a Cease and Desist Letter to the newspaper by his lawyers, Copley Partners, signed by Seni Adio (SAN), the former governor described the publication as false and malicious.

In the letter dated July 23, 2024, Amosuns lawyers stated that: The publication has portrayed our client in the eyes of the general public as corrupt, unethical, dishonest, and to have engaged in breach of trust. Whereas our client is a gentleman of stellar reputation which he has built throughout his lifetime and especially over his professional career and public service cumulatively spanning approximately 40 years. 
