SaharaReporters gathered that the brothers were arrested on Thursday night and the police refused to grant them bail despite a promise to do so on Friday.

Two brothers identified as Mr Emmanuel Adewale Emmanuel and Mr Sunday Adewale have been detained by the Nigerian police at Zone 2 in Ogun State following a petition from the wife of a police officer.

SaharaReporters gathered that the brothers were arrested on Thursday night and the police refused to grant them bail despite a promise to do so on Friday.

It was learned that their arrest was due to a petition written against them by the wife of a police officer who alleged that she was beaten by Sunday during an altercation between them in April.

However, one of the videos obtained by SaharaReporters shows some alleged thugs reportedly brought by the woman - the complainant - assaulting Emmanuel.

The hoodlums also allegedly stole Emmanuels Samsung phone which he reportedly bought for N75,000.

A source privy to the incident told SaharaReporters that the complainant is the wife of a policeman attached to the Elere police division in Lagos State.

The source said, The policeman from Elere police division who threatened Mr Adewale Sunday with his pistol was sighted leaving the police station Thursday night after Mr Adewale Sunday was detained.

The source continued: Their arrest was a plan by the police to cover up the beating of Emmanuel by the thugs the woman brought.

Before the case was transferred to Zone 2 yesterday, IPO Aremu Odunola had earlier implored Mr Adewale Emmanuel, the victim of the battery to forgo the loss of his phone and payment of medical bills so that the petitioner can forgo claims of medical bills and damage to her shop.

Meanwhile, video evidence and eyewitness accounts have shown that everything written in the petition submitted at Zone 2 on Friday is all false as the police are using intimidation and dehumanising tactics to weaken the victims to do their bidding and obstruct the course of justice.

SaharaReporters could not get the petitioner for comments.

When SaharaReporters contacted the DPO Sango-Otta Police Division on Friday, he said, Their arrest is an order from the above. It is true that both parties were involved in an assault against themselves but I did not know about their arrest. The matter has been transferred to Zone 2.

The police command spokesman, Omolola Odutola, promised to intervene and ensure justice.
