The netizens lambasted the police force and its spokesperson, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, for abducting the journalist for carrying out his constitutional duty while deliberately ignoring criminal allegations against Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun (IBD Dende), an Ogun State-based businessman accused of smuggling, some officers of the Nigeria Customs Service reportedly involved in smuggling and President Bola Tinubus loyalist, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, despite evidence.
Adejobi at the weekend confirmed the police arrest of Ojukwu, saying it was based on a petition against him.
SaharaReporters had reported how FIJ reported that Ojukwu went missing on Wednesday, May 1. His mobile phones were turned off, leaving his whereabouts unknown to colleagues, family, and friends.
However, a breakthrough came when a private detective hired by FIJ managed to trace the last active location of Ojukwus phones to an address in Isheri Olofin.
Ojukwu is being detained on the allegation of cybercrime, following the FIJs publication of one of the stories he produced under the BudgIT Foundations 2023 GovSpend fellowship, on financial mismanagement in the office of Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, former senior special assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on sustainable development goals (SSAP-SDGs).
SaharaReporters reported how human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, on Sunday accused Adejobi of using an expired section of the Cybercrimes Act to threaten a citizen over a social media post.
Effiong pointed out that the law mentioned by the police spokesman was no longer existent.
Reacting to the abduction and detention of Ojukwu, an X user, @Oluwanonso_Esq wrote, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, you are a very big disgrace to the institution that hired you.
You turned a blind eye to all the allegations and evidence that @fisayosoyombo gave to you about the illegal activities of IBD Dende and Customs Officials.
You were also blind and deaf when MC Oluomo threatened to deal with innocent Easterners on Election day in Lagos State.
But here you are threatening innocent Nigerians for registering their displeasure over the corrupt institution known as the Nigerian Police Force.
It is a notorious fact that does not require any modicum of proof that the Nigerian Police Force is a corrupt institution. This is not defamation.
The so-called Sec 24 of the Cybercrimes Act that empowers you to molest innocent Nigerian Citizens who speak their minds was declared illegal by the ECOWAS Court in 2021.
I repeat that you are a disgrace for threatening innocent tax payers but turning a blind eye to all the abundant evidence against political criminals and politically sponsored criminals who rape the country every day.
Come and prosecute me under the Cybercrimes Act also since you love it so much.

The FIJ founder, Fisayo Soyombo, had insisted that the journalist was abducted and not arrested as claimed by the Nigeria police.
He said in a post on his X account, Just so nobody is in doubt, what has happened to @fijnigeria reporter @Mazi_OJD is an abduction and not an arrest.
FIJ has honoured every single police invitation till date. As of this moment, nobody from our newsroom or our board invited by the police has ignored it.
Therefore, @PoliceNG knew all they needed was to send an invitation and Daniel would have come over.
To disappear him like that, throw us all into turmoil, leave us scampering from police station to police station lodging a missing person report, holding him incommunicado for two days, which would have been longer had we not received a tip-off, is an act of abduction.
In a real democracy, the police force cannot be acting like bandits, disappearing people whose contacts they have -- and not just people but journalists whose work is bound by the law and against whom they know the correct process to follow in the case of any grievance.
Hopefully the media can report this as what it is. A bloody abduction “ not an arrest!
