Six members of the Labour Party in the Enugu State House of Assembly have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The six LP lawmakers made their intentions known in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Hon. Uche Ugwu.

SaharaReporters gathered that the lawmakers include the Chief Whip of the House and member representing Igboeze North I, Hon. Ejike Eze and the Leader of the House and member representing Enugu North, Hon. Johnson Ugwu.

Others are the member representing Enugu South Rural, Hon. Princess Ugwu, member representing Nsukka West, Hon. Pius Ezugwu; member representing Igbo-Etiti West, Hon. Amuka Williams and the member representing Oji River, Hon Osita Eze.

Rumours of their defection had been a topic of discussion on various social media platforms in the state for the past month.

With their defection now made official, the PDP which was in the minority in the House has moved to become the party with the majority.

An aggrieved member and supporter of the Labour Party had written on social media: "Ndi Enugu sacrificed a lot, pulled their weight behind @NgLabour candidates in 2023 general elections.

"Now they want to defect to monstrous PDP. Most of these guys had zero chances of winning their constituency if not Obidients in Enugu state. Below are LP HoA members; Udefuna Chukwudi - Ezeagu; Ugwu Raymond - Enugu East II; Ugwu Obiajulu P. - Enugu South II and Ngene Bright Emeka - Enugu South I.

Others are: Ogara Harrison - Igbo-Eze South; Eze Ejikeme - Igbo-Eze North I; Okoh Osita - Enugu East I; Ezugwu Onyekachi - Nsukka East; Osita Eze - Oji - River; Ijere Obinna Anthony - Udenu; Onyechi Malachi Okey - Nsukka West; Amuka Williams - Igbo-Etiti West; Ani Johnson Samuel - Enugu North; and Eze Gabriel Lebechi - Isi-Uzo.

"These are 14 members which makes LP majority in the house. We will keep calling them out, you can''t take our mandate to PDP.

"If they don''t want to remain in Labour Party, that means they should resign their position as spelt out in the constitution. You cant take mandate given to you from LP to PDP, Ndi Enugu won''t allow that in 2024. That bribe you guys collected to defect, ''ga agbado unu''.

"Hello @HonOsitadimma you promised your constituency and ndi Enugu that nothing will make you and colleagues switch to PDP, that you will represent Obidients that elected you very well. What have changed Hon. Osita under few months in power?"
