¦ reveals AFCON 2025 Qualifier draws date

Reports indicate that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) plans to eliminate its secondary club tournament, the Confederation Cup.

Established in 2004 through the merger of the CAF Cup and the African Cup Winners Cup, the Confederation Cup will be discontinued.

In its place, CAF introduced the African Football League last year, initially with eight teams. This League is now set to expand to accommodate more teams and will become the Premier Club Competition in Africa.

As a result of these changes, the CAF Champions League will assume the position formerly held by the Confederation Cup as Africas second-tier club competition.

Additionally, the winner of the African Football League will earn the opportunity to represent the continent in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football has unveiled the draw date for the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The quartet of Liberia, Chad, Eswatini, and Niger qualified for the group stage last month after cruising past their opponent in the preliminary round.

The football body has revealed the end of April as the date for qualifying draws but no specific date has been picked.

Super Eagles of Nigeria is among the top seeds for the draw having finished as the first runners-up in the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Nigerian side is also among the top 3 teams in the continent behind Morocco and Senegal.
