Former Napoli and Argentina talisman Diego Maradona, one of the greatest footballers in the history of the game, left us one year ago. Today marks the one-year anniversary of the superstar’s controversial death.

On the afternoon of November 25, 2020, the news of Maradonas death at 60 sent shockwaves through the world of football.

The superstar had gone undergone a delicate operation in the brain a few weeks earlier and returned to Tigre to be monitored over a longer period.

But the Argentine superstar suddenly died following heart failure and there are still many unanswered questions regarding his death.

Maradona was buried at the Jardines de Bella Vista cemetery just outside of Buenos Aires and thousands of people gathered in the streets to mourn their hero.

The main question remains whether the death occurred naturally and reports in Argentina confirm the San Isidro Attorney Generals Office collected statements from witnesses and the defendants, revealing negligence.

Maradona is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time and helped Napoli to two Scudetti, one Coppa Italia, the Supercoppa Italiana and the UEFA Cup.

The club has never reached similar heights in Europe after the former Barcelona star’s time at the club.

Maradona won the 1986 World Cup with Argentina, as the captain and the protagonist of the competition, with five goals in the competition and two of the most historic moments in the history of the game.

But the superstars career was marked by controversies too, as he was disqualified in 1991 for testing positive to cocaine and then disqualified at the 1994 World Cup after testing positive for ephedrine.

Maradona played 257 competitive games with Napoli, scoring 115 goals in the process, and returned to football as a coach, and most famously overseeing Argentinas run to the quarter-finals in the 2010 World Cup.

Maradona finished his career in the Gimnasia dugout and was a part of the club until he died one year ago.
