Manchester City’s Erling Haaland delivered a stellar performance, scoring four goals in his team’s dominant 5-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Premier League (EPL).
Earlier on Saturday, Arsenal’s 3-0 triumph over Bournemouth had widened their lead to four points at the top of the table.
Despite the pressure, City showcased their resilience by closing the gap to just one point, with three matches remaining compared to Arsenal’s two.
The win places defending champions City just one point behind league leaders Arsenal, with an extra game in hand.
Haaland opened the scoring for City with a penalty in the 12th minute, followed by another goal just before halftime. He then added two more goals in the 35th and 53rd minutes to complete his impressive haul.
With this performance, Haaland’s tally for the EPL season reaches 25 goals, positioning him as a strong contender for the Golden Boot, having clinched the title last season with a record-breaking 36 goals.
Despite facing criticism for not matching his outstanding debut season in Manchester, where he scored 52 goals across all competitions, Haaland’s contribution remains vital for City.
Julián Ãlvarez sealed City’s victory with a goal in the 85th minute, while Wolves managed a solitary goal from Hwang Hee-chan.
As the EPL season reaches its climax, with Arsenal having two games and City three, the title race is poised to be fiercely contested.
City’s unbeaten streak now extends to 19 Premier League games, with their only dropped points since February coming in draws against title rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.
In the upcoming fixtures, City will face Fulham and Tottenham before hosting West Ham on the final day of the season.
Arsenal, meanwhile, must remain vigilant for any twists in the title race if they are to end a 20-year wait for the league title.
However, City’s consistent form suggests they are determined to make history by becoming the first team to win four consecutive English top-flight titles.
