A Nigerian man identified as Nasir Idris has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment for stealing a fan and praying mat from a mosque in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal  Capital Territory, Abuja.

Idris was charged before a Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for violation of the Penal Code of the FCT.

The prosecution, Mr Chinedu Ogada, told the court that on March 17, one Ali Zuma arrested Idris and transported him to the police in Zuba, also in the FCT.

According to Ogada, the culprit broke inside the mosque in Dei-Dei and took the fan and mat before being apprehended.

He mentioned further  that Idris admitted to the crime during investigation and confessed to have been in prison twice also for theft.

Idris pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency and hence, he was convicted to serve a 15-month jail term for his action.
