Ahead of the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 11, look back at some of the hottest looks worn to the event in years past!

During the year she hosted the VMAs, Miley Cyrus left little to the imagination in a pair of suspenders attached to a beaded skirt…with nothing underneath. She also rocked thigh-high silver boots and her hair in a braided high ponytail.

FKA Twigs’ 2015 dress featured a sheer skirt and ab cutouts. She also wore strappy black shoes and a pop of red lipstick to complete her fierce look. 

Lily Aldridge looked beyond amazing in her majorly plunging dress at the 2015 VMAs. Her black gown hugged every inch of her figure and she rocked it like a confident queen on the carpet.

Katy Perry looked beyond hot in her silver mini dress at the 2009 VMAs. Her style has come a long way since then, but it was definitely one of the sexiest dresses of the night at this point!

Gigi Hadid’s legs were on FULL display in this summery dress at the 2015 VMAs. She wore her hair slicked back and was tanned to perfection in the orange ensemble.

Britney Spears gave us major body envy in this LBD. Her dress featured a cutout that ran across her midsection and she wore her hair simple and straight for the red carpet.

Nicki Minaj showed off her enviable figure in this blue ensemble at the VMAs in 2016. The dress featured sheer paneling and cutouts along the midsection, and Nicki wore her hair long and straight with a middle part.

Naya Rivera look like a total goddess in this skintight black dress. Her gown hugged her figure perfectly and she wore her hair simple and straight to let the dress do all of the talking.

Kim Kardahian showed off major curves in this little black dress when she attended the VMAs with Kanye West in 2016. Her hair was styled in purposely wet curls and she rocked dark, dramatic eye makeup, as well.

Katy Perry’s teeny black-and-white dress showed a lot of leg at the 2010 VMAs. The ensemble featured one sleeve and a side cutout, and Katy wore her hair in big curls on the red carpet.

Demi Lovato’s was red hot in her plunging gown at the 2014 VMAs. Her dres featured a low-cut neckline and a thigh-high slit, and Demi wore her hair parted way to the side to add even more fierceness to the look.

Ciara wasn’t able to make one wrong move in this dress with perfectly placed paneling. The sheer ensemble left little to the imagination, and Ciara rocked it perfectly.

Ciara totally owned the carpet in this black, feathered dress. She completed the look with silver shoes and her hair pushed behind her face on one side to show off her cat eye makeup.

Ariana Grande looked like a total dominatrix in this leather black dress and thigh-high boots at the VMAs in 2014. She pulled her hair back into her signature ponytail, as well.

Selena Gomez looked absolutely incredible in this blue dress with sheer cutouts and a thigh-high split when she attended the 2013 VMAs. She wore her hair long, straight and parted to the side, along with a pop of red lipstick.

Shakira attended the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards in a gold sequin dress, with her curly blonde locks perfectly complementing her look. It was a fitting choice for the night as she was presented with the MTV Video Vanguard Award.
