Metro UK  Dec 13, 2024

A woman killed when she was hit with a car while carrying Christmas presents has been named.

Lin Donnelly, 72, was hit by a blue Ford Focus on Brewster Street, Bootle, just outside Liverpool, around 7.45pm last night. She died in hospital a short time later.

Her family released a statement this evening, saying: Words cant describe the pain in our hearts at the unbearable loss of you. Our life will never be the same without you..

A 46-year-old man, from Liverpool, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. Following an interview, he has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy of Merseyside Police said: Our thoughts remain with the ladys family at this tragic time and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

Although we have made an arrest, the investigation into this incident is ongoing and in its early stages. I would appeal for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

I would like to specifically appeal to the drivers of a silver-coloured BMW 1 Series and a small black vehicle, possible a Fiat 500, that were travelling along Brewster Street towards the city centre shortly before 7.45pm.

I believe that the occupants of these vehicles may be able to provide vital information.

Police though, did confirm that the driver of the Ford Focus remained at the scene after colliding with the woman.

A couple who witnessed the tragic incident which occurred on Brewster Street, said they saw bags and Christmas presents strewn across the road.

They told the Liverpool Echo: The girl was on the floor and we pulled over to help her.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or may have any further information to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Simon Duffy added: I would urge others in the area at the time, please check your dashcam footage, including those who drove through the area, in the minutes following the collision.

If you live in the area, please review your CCTV or smart doorbell footage just in case you captured anything.

Even if you think its insignificant, please let us know as it could be vital to our inquiries.
