Veteran rapper and activist, Eedris Abdulkareem, has described President Bola Tinubu as the worst president ever in Nigerias history.
The 51-year-old music star made this statement during an interview on News Central TV on Wednesday, while reacting to the recent ban placed on his protest song, Tell Your Papa, by the National Broadcasting Commission.
Abdulkareem, who is known for using music to speak out against injustice, said the ban was an attack on freedom of expression.
The 1999 Nigerian Constitution guarantees freedom of expression in Section 39. Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights also supports this right, he said.
He also replied to a statement made by the Presidents son, Seyi Tinubu, who earlier called his father the greatest president Nigeria has ever had.
In response, Abdulkareem said, Seyi, I disagree. Your dad may be the best father to you, but as far as Nigerians are concerned, he is the worst president ever. You look better when you keep quiet. Next time, hand the mic to the MC.
The rapper said his song was not a personal attack, but a way to speak out on the hunger, insecurity, and joblessness affecting Nigerians.
People are suffering. Things are hard. My song is only saying what the masses are feeling, he added.
Tell Your Papa has continued to trend on social media despite the ban. Many Nigerians have praised Abdulkareem for speaking the truth through music.
Abdulkareem has a long history of political activism through songs. His 2004 track Jaga Jaga was widely seen as a protest against bad governance, and his latest work follows the same path.
