The Take It Back Movement (TIB) has formally requested permission to use Eagles Square in Abuja for the upcoming #EndBadGovernance protest, scheduled to begin on August 1st and run through August 10th, 2024.

The protest is part of the #DaysOfRage initiative aimed at addressing the ongoing national crisis attributed to the ruling party.

In the letter addressed to the relevant authorities, Damilare Adenola, TIB’s Director of Mobilisation, revealed the group’s plans to utilize Eagles Square as a central gathering point for Nigerians advocating for improved governance.

The request includes the use of the venue around the clock for the duration of the protest, with a possibility of extension beyond ten days if necessary.

The group stressed the need for essential facilities to support the demonstrators, including a 24-hour power supply, adequate toilet facilities, water, and security.

The group also called for the removal of the outer wire mesh barrier facing the Aso Rock Villa, allowing protesters to visit the Presidential Villa if desired.

The movement stressed that protesters should receive the same treatment as foreign and local dignitaries who have previously utilized the space.

“It is our sincere hope that this request will be granted expeditiously,” Adenola stated.

The #EndBadGovernance protest is expected to draw significant participation as citizens demand accountability and better governance from their leaders.

However, the Guardian has earlier reported that Wike on Thursday asked FCT residents not to protest on August 1 but instead urged them to celebrate as traditional rulers receive their certificates of recognition from the Area Council.

The minister stated that the date has been set aside for this event, and the FCT will not be available for protesters.

However, in the letter to Wike, the protesters, among other requests, have demanded the removal of the outer wire mesh barrier facing Aso Rock Villa, allowing them to visit the Presidential Villa during the protest.

The Take It Back Movement expressed hope that the request will be granted expeditiously, as they prepare for the nationwide demonstration against the state of governance in the country.
